Band Training for Baseball |

Resistance Bands are one of my favorite training modalities for baseball performance as the applications seem endless. In my opinion, band training provides a good amount of variety. It's not all about the iron; with the right reps and sets along with the proper resistance, bands can deliver responses such as hypertrophy, strength and power. bands also provide the ability to load movements in all three planes of motion; making it ideal for training the various dynamic and multi-directional movements seen in baseball. Band training can apply from pitchers to catchers, infielders to outfielders, throwing to running. Be creative. Whether you're on the bases or in the field the ability to accelerate and decelerate under control is vital to baseball performance. That's why I appreciate the acceleration and deceleration components that bands provide. As a band is stretched, the resistance progressively gets harder (increased levels of force) requiring strength and acceleration to overcome the resistance. Just as important , is the ability to decelerate (or control) the forces that were stored when the band was stretched. Don't underestimate the importance of deceleration. Many injuries stem from the inability to decelerate forces. Your best advertisment, is to keep your athlete on the field not off. Remember, off field training supports on field performance. Stay healthy and strong...baseball strong.
